Freedom to Parent: Combatting Right-Wing Disinformation Targeting
Public Schools and Our Communities

A panel discussion presented by Greater Boston PFLAG

Are you confused about legislation and policies targeting LGBTQ+ youth? Are you hearing worrisome
information about book bans, athletics, and health care? You are not alone! Disinformation is rampant
and is intended to cause chaos and uncertainty. But we can protect kids in our community by getting the
facts and getting organized in our own communities.
Greater Boston PFLAG invites you to a panel discussion to learn about the groups behind the increasing
anti-DEI, anti-CRT and anti-Trans efforts we are seeing in Massachusetts, and to hear from individuals
who have organized in their communities — what worked, what they learned, tips for others. Breakout
groups will allow participants to workshop ideas for organizing in their own communities. GBPFLAG will
also share a toolkit containing guidelines for understanding what is going on in your town/city, for
presenting to school committees and writing letters to the editor, for organizing community support at
important meetings and at the ballot box, and for responding to counterattacks.
Join this webinar to:
● Identify how to engage with commissions and boards in your town/city
● Create easily understood messages that resonate with voters and mitigate fear mongering
● Find and join others with similar goals
● Identify potential safety issues and strategies to prevent and mitigate
Our guests include citizens of Arlington, Dedham and Newton, who will talk about their recent victories
in school committee meetings and local elections. We will also be joined by someone from Mass
Equality, who will speak about the link between local efforts and national right-wing groups, as well as
work being done on a larger level to track these and fight back.
